We’re in the swing of the biggest tennis tournament of the year in Wimbledon right now, but let’s not allow that to keep us gamblers from looking ahead to the next month or so on the men’s professional tennis circuit. One starts and ends with the rankings, here, and assessment of each player at the top of the list. But Nadal and Federer have been analyzed to death, and it’s certainly no surprise that those two still top the list. You could probably take a snapshot from any point over the last few years and they’ll be there, just maybe not in that order.

But as great as they are, the tandem aren’t guaranteed to take every title, and that’s where smart analysis of the competition, and subsequent informed wagering, come into play. So who else is out there you should be paying attention to?

First, Dmitry Tursunov, who currently sits at No. 22 on the rankings, but that’s after rising five spots on the chart, the most positive movement by any player in the top 30. He’s only 12-11 this year in singles play, but he has one singles and one doubles title, having won the ATP AEGON International. He’s only 26 and already has an amazing 9 years of experience, having gone pro in 2000. His height and build help contribute to a strong power game, one that will only continue to improve through the rest of this season and the next. His experience is also paying off, and he’ll be one to watch in upcoming tournaments like the Hall of Fame Championships from July 6-12 in Newport, Rhode Island.

Also, keep an eye on Andy Roddick, expect him to make a push back into the top 4 players if he performs well at Wimbledon. Roddick has never had the killer instinct that helped catapult Federer, Nadal and others into the elite class of players, but he has all the fundamentals and skill to be named up there with the best playing today. He’s currently sixth in the rankings, and there’s a significant separation between him and Juan Martin Del Potro at No. 5, but he could leap right up there with a few more big wins. I think he’s worth betting against the money line, in any event, he never seems to get enough respect in that department. Hard to think of Roddick as a sleeper, but if you put your betting faith in him, he’ll probably reward you with a nice payoff if he gets hot.

Futures – You can wager on who you think will win events before they begin and this pays out well.

You can find a lot of information on several of the official tennis websites online before the events begins when you want to wager on them. There are also a couple websites with full databases of stats so that you can find out which players have the better overall records. It’s important to stay up to date with the world rankings as well so you know what players are making moves in the rankings whether good or bad.

We’re going to be going into an in-depth look at tennis betting strategy and tennis betting tips throughout the website so make sure you check out all the articles for your benefit. If you’re new to the sport of tennis then I would focus on the major tournaments before worrying about the other events. Once you’re making money with the major events then you can use your profits towards betting on the smaller events.
