Wimbledon
Wimbledon is easily the most recognized tennis tournament in the world and even those who hate the sport of tennis know exactly what the Wimbledon is. Every year the best men, women and junior players meet up in London to play in the Wimbledon Event which is one of four grand slams in tennis each year. Wimbledon remains the only grand slam in tennis that uses a grass surface instead of a clay surface or hard court.
The Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and this is part of the reason why it’s known to be the most famous tennis tournament. For over 100 years tennis players have been meeting up in London to battle for the championships. There are numerous events held at Wimbledon each year which include five major events, four invite only events and four junior events.
The tournament runs during the months of June and July every year and in fact the 2009 Wimbledon Event has just finished. Over the history of the event the venue has never changed and it still is played at the “All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club”. Over the past decade the venue has seen a lot of improvements including a museum, new tennis stadiums, new facilities and a retractable roof. The retractable roof was only installed for the 2009 Wimbledon so it’s still new and has only been used several times.
One problem that the Wimbledon has had over the years was rain delays, but now with the new roof they don’t need to worry about matches being rained out. One of the busiest times of the year for cappers in tennis is during Wimbledon and you’ll have plenty of events to wager on. As I mentioned earlier there are five major events played at the Wimbledon each year and they include the following.
- Men Singles – 128 Tennis Players Compete
- Women Singles – 128 Tennis Players Compete
- Men Doubles – 64 Teams Compete
- Women Doubles – 64 Teams Compete
- Mixed Doubles – 48 Teams Compete
You can also wager on the junior and invite only events in most cases although I don’t recommend it unless you have an edge on a given match. There are plenty of matches in the main events during Wimbledon to keep you busy and you have no reason to be betting on the other matches. All of the tennis players that are recognizable will be playing in the main events anyways.
Typically the first few rounds at Wimbledon is incredibly easy although you need to have a large enough bankroll in order to make it worth it. Since there will be some heavy favourites during the first few rounds you will need to risk a lot of juice, but the picks are near guaranteed. For instance, you might see Roddick playing against a #75 ranked player which would entail Roddick being favoured at probably around -500 – -750. He will almost always win in this situation, but you’ll need a few grand available in your sportsbook account to make it worth it. The later rounds of the Wimbledon become harder to wager on, but the odds become a lot more normal.
